I ran this event in 2007. It was a very good event and alot of fun. The run started off slowly due to the thin streets, which continued until we got out of Pauillac. Once out there were a couple of vineyards to contend with, a few racers badly damaged their knees and hands by falling on the stones in the fields.
Medical provision was good as were the wine stops (I only had a chance to stop at a couple). The day was scorching and I got burnt to a crisp. Due to grapes needing loads of sun they whole area is a massive expanse of “nothing but row upon row of vine” as beautiful as they are they can get a bit boring after you’ve sweated your way through enough water to fill a bath and salt to fill 2 grinders!
Food and drink(!) provision was excellent and the atmosphere was fantastic almost all the way around. I really fancied the steak on the last couple of Kms but the reality of it was that hunger during distance event seems to disappear… well in me anyway.
I am glad I did it but I won’t be doing it again, as there are so many out there and I have only got so many races in me!
If you want fun and a run come here, however, you can only really do one or the other if it’s hot :D
